Preschool Day Trips & Outdoor Adventures

We are so fortunate to be able to take our Preschoolers and some of our Toddlers on regular day trips out to explore exciting and interesting spaces beyond our nursery doors!

Some children find it easier to learn and absorb information in an outside classroom, without the constraints of four walls!! They love exploring all of the different learning opportunities that stepping out into the wider community has to offer.

Aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, our trips are carefully planned to support every child’s unique stage of development up to age 5. We go on outings every Wednesday and Friday morning to a variety of engaging destinations—from woodland adventures at Leigh Woods to visits to local community spots and cultural spaces.

Our day trips include following trails, hunting for minibeasts, discovering local landmarks, and exploring new environments. The children love learning about the world, spotting wildlife, and building their physical confidence as they safely navigate new spaces!

We also have lots of fun activities connected to our outings, such as creating maps of our journeys, making nature-inspired art, and discussing our discoveries. Through these experiences, children practice road safety, learn how to travel safely as a group, and gain a sense of respect for public and natural environments.

We believe that nurturing real-world curiosity and outdoor exploration does wonders for young children.

Our EYFS-aligned trips support their:

  • Physical Development: Balance, spatial awareness, and large motor skills across varied terrain
  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development: Confidence, independence, self-esteem, and group cooperation
  • Communication & Language: New vocabulary, listening skills, and active conversation about what they see
  • Understanding the World: Curiosity about nature, living things, maps, and their local community
  • Expressive Arts & Design: Storytelling, role-play, and creative art inspired by their outings

It also enriches the entire curriculum, laying strong foundations for early science, maths, art, and literacy!
